Al Capone was one of the kingpins of mob rule in Chicago during the Prohibition era. His group operated smuggling, bootleg liquor and prostitution rings throughout the Midwest. He was also the mastermind of the famed Saint Valentines Day Massacre, which ended in the death of some of his biggest rivals. Oddly, he went to prison for tax evasion, not his nefarious crimes. He languished in Alcatraz, until illness led to his release in 1939. He died in 1947 in Palm Island, Florida
