Information about Karl Marx

Karl Marx
Karl Marx

Announcing later in life that religion was "the opiate of the masses", Karl Marx was born to Jewish parents. As Marx grew older, he became more radical in his views. Most of his views during that time found their way into the "Communist Manifesto" which he was asked to write for the Communist League. The balance of his life was consumed with research on economics and history for his most famous book, "Das Kapital", which was written in four volumes, only one of which was published during his lifetime. His first printing of the book only sold 1,000 copies. He often commented that the royalties from the book didn't even pay for the cigars he smoked while he wrote it.

Date of Birth: May 05, 1818
