Born in 1889, Charles "Charlie" Chaplin's big break in show business came in 1914 when he made his first film for Mack Sennett, Making a Living. Chaplin's original movies were directed by others, but after his fourth film, he decided to direct himself. He made 35 films within the next two years, including The Tramp and The Bank.
