John Paul Jones famously remarked in one of the most well-known war quotes that he had not yet begun to fight. But as we've come to learn over the years, there is rarely any glory in war, at least in modern warfare. Instead, there is only glory in the history books of epic battles fought long ago, before we got really efficient at killing one another. Except in rare cases, war rarely solves anything and in the intervening years, we often forget what we were even fighting for or against. What we do learn through war quotes, are the words of Herdotus: "In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons."
