Charles Dickens

The author of such classics as "€œGreat Expectations"€ and "Oliver Twist"€, Charles Dickens is one of the greatest authors of the Victorian era. His books today are considered classics in English literature. Dickens began his writing career while he was a reporter. Many of his novels of the time, such as "€œOld Curiosity Shop"€, were published in serial form initially. Others, such as "A Tale of Two Cities" and "€œBleak House"€, were based on his own experiences with social injustice, the plight of the poor and the hypocrisy of society. Though known for his fiction, Dickens also wrote mysteries and satirical pieces, though most people today know him as the author of the holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol."
