After learning his craft in silent films, he moved into sound, turning out a string of movies in the U.K., including The Man Who Knew Too Much and Sabotage. In the U.S. his first American film, Rebecca, netted him an Academy Award. His most enduring films where to come, including Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo and North by Northwest. He carved a niche as the Master of Suspense, becoming on of the industry's most influential directors or all time.
