The Inspiring Way

Posted December 31, 2012 by Jonathan Baron

Some of the world's greatest creations couldn't exist without inspiration.  Arts, music, and literary works all were created through some sort of inspiration, and now serve as inspiration to others. Inspiration is also necessary for daily life and all the little trials and tribulations we face almost every day. Below we'll look at some of the most inspirational quotes, and how they can be or have been applied to everyday life.

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out?"
- Dr. Seuss

Uniqueness is something we as individuals value. It's easy to fall into the norm with fashions, and tastes, and even hobbies, but we all always seek the unique combination of all interests. Everyone often takes pride in their unique aspects, and try to flaunt them. We'll flourish the most if we embrace our uniqueness and build on it.

"Believe you can, and you're halfway there."
- Theodore Roosevelt

We've all heard the story of the Little Engine that Could, but Teddy seems to dish the same message to us in a more adult-friendly manner.  It's often said that if you smile, it'll eventually convince your own body that you're happy, so it seems only reasonable that the same be said about accomplishing tasks. If we're convinced we can accomplish something, actually completing it can seem much less troublesome.

"Change your thoughts and you change your world."
- Norman Vincent Peale

As humans we tend to fear straying from the popular opinion, or even changing one we've held for a long time. It's vital to see that if no one ever faced this challenge head on, the world and human civilization would never improve.  Large impacts can be made by changing the way we think, and being malleable, then one can only imagine how it could better our daily lives.

"The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love."
-William Wordsworth

An almost fail proof way to measure a man's character is by watching what he does when no one is looking. We all know that we love and crave the approval and praise that comes with doing a good deed. The mark of true kindness is continuing to go above and beyond to do a good deed, even if we know it's going to go unnoticed.

"Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave."
-Mary Moore

If we're never faced with challenges or hardships in life, we never learn the best way to deal and cope with them.  This quote presents the truth that we need not fear failure or pain, because it's vital to properly enjoy the good and splendor that come later.

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
C.S. Lewis

We always hear about older, usually retired, people going back to school for another degree, or taking classes just for fun. An enjoyment for enriching and enhancing one's self, even after the peak of life, is one of the most remarkable things to do in old age. It's never too late if dedication is present.

"Just because it's not what you're expecting, doesn't mean it's not everything you've been waiting for."
-Author Unknown

Good things come forth in unexpected ways. Everyone, at one time or another, has been faced with disappointment or confusion at the way a scenario has played itself out. It's often hard to look past our disappointments and see that maybe it truly is for the best. If we give things a chance, even if they aren't the way we imagine, we may come to find that it's exactly what we wanted and needed all along.

"When inspiration does not come, I go for a walk, go to the movies, talk to a friend, let go . . . The Muse is bound to return again, especially if I turn my back!"
- Judy Collins

We've all been stuck in that situation, where the word is on the tip of our tongues, and it escapes us completely. How often, then, does it randomly pop back into our heads once we've moved on to another topic? When creativity or motivation or drive escapes us, the best thing to do is to trust that it will come to us and carry on.

"Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand."
Emily Kimbrough

Misery loves company. As humans, we love to be empathized with. It's a comfort knowing that someone is or has gone through something similar to what we are feeling. We all realize that the accessibility of sharing concerns and having them reciprocated, or being reassured always helps us to cope. We shouldn't be afraid to seek the companionship and empathy of others!

"Diligence is the mother of good fortune."
- Benjamin Disraeli

When something doesn't work out, try, try again. It's said that Thomas Edison tried many, many different ways to create a light bulb before coming up with the metal coil design. When asked about his failures, he said that he merely learned many ways not to make a light bulb. If effort is put forth continuously, good can come of it.
