Quotes About Life to Jump-start your Day

Are you sitting down? Good. Grab a pencil, because you're about to get a massive dose of inspirational quotes about life that you will want to remember. Whether you are suffering from the post-holiday letdown, anxious about the upcoming Valentine's Day love lottery, or just feeling like everyone around you is more talented and successful, we can help! These quotes about life are guaranteed to lift your spirits, help you find direction, and make you sound wiser to your friends with a few insightful snippets to throw into everyday conversation.

Let's start at the top with someone who led an amazingly inspirational life, Mahatma Gandhi. A mural in our home honors him one of his many quotes about life, "Live simply so that others may simply live." An even more direct life quote, "My life is my message," may not mean much if you live under a rock and don't know his story, but thankfully, there's an award-winning movie you can rent to get up to speed. In his later years, Gandhi led an austere life focused on helping his fellow man. It's a great lesson to bring one down to earth about what's really important.

Like Gandhi, many of us draw strength and direction from a higher power. If you are a believer, you may recognize one of his quotes about life that has comforted many in difficult times: "God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way."

Another kind of belief is reflected in the scene from Peter Pan where Tinkerbell is poisoned (oops, spoiler alert). Only through the participation of the audience who must show that they believe in fairies is she brought back to life. This incredibly popular fantasy, brought colorfully to life by the author James M. Barrie, reflected his upbeat perspective, as found in one of his quotes about life, "Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." Want to try putting this one into practice? Try this: for no reason at all, say a kind word to a stranger or smile at someone on the bus or in the grocery store. If you don't get a similar reaction back at you 4 out of 5 times, I will eat a smiley face sticker.

I would love to be Souza and have the royalties to one of his most famous quotes about life, as it appears everywhere etched in stone, on posters, coffee mugs and greeting cards. "Dance as though no one is watching you, Love as though you have never been hurt, Sing as though no one can hear you, Live as though heaven is on earth." I bet Oprah wishes she had said that.

American Philosopher James Conant looked to the animal kingdom for inspirational quotes about life. When he says, "Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out," I try not to think about the fact that some of those who stuck out their necks ended up losing their heads as a result. But that's another story.

Ending things on a more positive note, let's close with one of Baptist preacher Charles quotes about life, who certainly delivered a good share of eulogies in his name. His suggestion? "A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble." My advice would be to carve your name on an edible heart, such as a cookie or cake, as Valentine's Day is not far away.

So there you go. Are you feeling more inspired or at least a little more cheerful? If not, you'll find other inspirational quotes about life here that may do the trick. It's some of the best free advice you can get in life, and certainly a lot cheaper than seeing a therapist.
