Learning from Historical Inspirational Quotes

For many people, history class was a time to be bored for an hour or two and hope you passed the test at the end of the term so you didn't have to take it again. Most people don't really pay a lot of attention in history class, and don’t really care if they learn anything.  After all, what do you care what happened in 1503?  How is that really going to impact your life?

Well, while you may not think you need to learn exactly what happened and when it happened in history, there is still something to be learned from those historical characters. You see, many of them led great lives. Some were very difficult lives. They learned a lot of wisdom in those lives that they can pass on to those of us who are around now, if we take the time to pay attention to them.

As a matter of fact, if you take the time to do a little research into the quotes that are being used on many of those posters and desk art pieces that people live by, you will most likely find that many of them were, in fact, written or spoken by characters from way back in history.

Let's go way back with one, back to the time of 356-323 BC.  A simple, yet hitting quote on how you should live your life and follow your dreams comes from Alexander the Great:

“There is nothing impossible to those willing to try.”

Short, sweet and to the point. Yet, it also is very true and can be a source of inspiration for those who have dreams that seem sometimes a little hard to get to. As you move forward in life you will always have battles and trials facing you. It will be in those hard times when you really need to hold fast to what you want and push to get to that goal or dream. Perhaps having a copy of Alexander's words nearby will help.

Now let's move to the time period of 551-479 BC. You have most likely heard the name Confucius. Many people walk around spouting 'Confucius say…" lines all the time. Well Confucius was a real person and a man of brilliance. He did, in fact, have a number of wise sayings, although often the ones you hear people spouting are not his. They are just joke lines they decided to put his name to. So what did he say? Well here is one of his historical inspiration quotes that may remind you to take the time to really look at the world if you want to see its beauty

"Everything has its beauty, but not everyone can see it."

If you think about your daily life and the lives of those around you, you may see the truth behind this quote. We all have images in our head of what is beautiful and what is not and often we are set in those ways and not open to anything different. However, if you take the time to look at the world with open eyes, or better yet through the eyes of another, we may see things in a new and different light.
Finally, let’s move to a more current time in history. We're checking in with Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.”

This is just a good inspirational quote to remember when it comes to arguments in life. Sometimes, your only way out is to walk away, as not all people are willing to listen to your side or change the topic to something else. So, sometimes you just need to walk away.
